Lagos Seals Churches, Hotels, Others Over Noise Pollution
The Lagos State Government has shut down several establishments across the state over persistent noise pollution and other environmental violations.
The enforcement was carried out by the Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency (LASEPA) on Tuesday, September 22, following repeated warnings and abatement notices issued to the affected establishments.
The agency said the affected facilities were located in Ogba, Idimu-Ikota, Ejigbo, LASU-Iba Road, Igando and Agodo-Egbe.
According to LASEPA, the establishments had been given opportunities to address the identified violations but failed to comply with environmental requirements and directives issued by the agency.
Among those sealed was Thrillz Lounge on Odusanmi Street, Ogba, alongside Feixiang Plastic on LASU-Ojo Road, Oko Filling Bus Stop.
Others include Marvel Hotel & Suites at Chrisbee Crescent, BRT Bus Stop, Igando; Keviz Hotel & Suites on Councilor Ajayi Street, Obadore Bus Stop, LASU-Iba Road; and DSN Hotel & Suites on Benson Onyeacholen Street, O’Mark Bus Stop, LASU-Igando Road.
Rudaj Vegetable Oil on Tanimowo Street, Ologufe Bus Stop, Igando Road, was also affected.
The list further included Celestial Church of Christ, Aduragbemi Parish, on Adetola Buhari Street, Okerube Bus Stop, Ikotun; Limas on Aro-Oloye Street, off Abaranje Road, Abaranje, Ikotun; and Nico Hotel & Suites at Ayawo Close, NEPA Bus Stop, Egbe-Isolo Road, Ejigbo.
Also sealed were 10Kobo Night Club on Abanishe Street, off Hostel Road, Agodo-Egbe; Master Furniture on Coleman Street, Pao Bus Stop, Idimu-Ikota Road; and Nikky’s Executive Bar & Lounge on Governor’s Road, Ikotun.
LASEPA said the enforcement was part of the state government’s efforts to control activities that could threaten public health, disturb residents or negatively affect the environment.
Speaking on the operation, the agency’s General Manager, Dr Babatunde Ajayi, said LASEPA would continue to monitor establishments and enforce environmental regulations across Lagos.
“Environmental compliance is a collective responsibility,” Ajayi said, adding that the agency would intensify enforcement against individuals, businesses, religious organisations and corporate bodies whose activities pose risks to the environment, public health and the wellbeing of Lagos residents.
He urged business owners, facility operators, religious institutions, scrap dealers and residents to obtain the necessary permits, comply with environmental regulations and adopt responsible practices to help maintain a cleaner, healthier and safer Lagos.
