Jurgen Klopp Hands Germany Call-Up to 17-Year-Old Bayern Munich Target
Germany manager Jurgen Klopp has handed Borussia Monchengladbach midfielder Wael Mohya his first senior international call-up, rewarding the 17-year-old for his impressive performances in the Bundesliga. The teenager has been named in Germany’s 24-man squad for upcoming Nations League fixtures against Serbia on November 13 and the Netherlands three days later, despite his limited experience at senior level.
Mohya has emerged as one of Gladbach’s brightest prospects, scoring twice and providing one assist in the Bundesliga this season. He also scored and assisted in a 3-2 victory over Stuttgart on October 23, becoming the fourth-youngest player in Bundesliga history to score in consecutive matches. Klopp praised his progress, noting that very few 17-year-olds are playing regularly in Germany’s top flight, while stressing the need to manage young talents carefully.

The call-up comes amid growing transfer interest from Bayern Munich, Borussia Dortmund, Bayer Leverkusen and RB Leipzig. Mohya is contracted to Gladbach until June 2028, but the club are negotiating improved terms reportedly worth around €2 million annually as they attempt to secure his future. A January move is considered unlikely, although Gladbach’s ability to retain the youngster could depend partly on their Bundesliga survival and the interest of rival clubs ahead of next summer.
