‘Let Them Assassinate Me’: Iran’s Pezeshkian Defies Threats as Fears of US Strikes Grow
Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has declared that assassination threats will not weaken his country, as tensions rise over possible fresh American military strikes.
Pezeshkian made the declaration on Tuesday amid growing concerns that Washington could launch another military operation against Tehran.
His comments followed limited American strikes on Monday targeting locations in the Strait of Hormuz and Qeshm Island.
The reported attacks came after Iranian forces allegedly opened fire on an American aircraft, further escalating tensions between both countries.
Despite the renewed military confrontation, Pezeshkian maintained that returning to war would serve neither country’s interests.
He reaffirmed Iran’s preference for resolving the crisis through dialogue, diplomatic negotiations and measures that respect national sovereignty.
The Iranian leader also insisted that his country’s population would remain resilient despite mounting military and economic pressures.
Iran is currently battling severe economic difficulties, including inflation approaching 90 per cent, a rapidly weakening currency and declining oil exports.
Speaking about the possibility of being assassinated, Pezeshkian dismissed the threat and questioned what such an action would accomplish.
“Let them assassinate me,” he said. “Even if they assassinate thousands of people like me, the enemy will not be able to do a damn thing.”
He further disclosed that Iran was considering difficult energy management measures to protect essential industrial operations.
According to the president, authorities could be forced to cut gas and electricity supplies to certain areas to preserve energy for production facilities.
Meanwhile, Iranian officials have maintained that the Strait of Hormuz will remain closed until Washington addresses Tehran’s demands.
These conditions reportedly include lifting naval blockades, easing oil sanctions and ending American military operations against Iran.
OrbitsNews reports that concerns over another confrontation have intensified following a report by The New York Times on Tuesday.
The newspaper reported that the United States military was preparing for a possible strike against Iran, potentially within the week following the American midterm elections.
The development has heightened uncertainty over diplomatic efforts and the possibility of another escalation between Washington and Tehran.
