Just a few years ago, Zadok Yohanna was playing football on rough, uneven pitches in northern Nigeria, far from scouts, cameras, or the spotlight of European football.

Today, the 18-year-old winger has sealed a major move to Brighton & Hove Albion in a deal reported at around £21.5 million, completing a rapid rise that has taken him from grassroots football to the English Premier League.

Yohanna began his journey at Ikon Allah FC, where his pace and raw attacking ability first marked him out as a special talent. His development later continued in Europe with AIK Stockholm, where he quickly emerged as one of the most exciting young prospects on the radar of top clubs.

Brighton won the race for his signature after intense competition, securing him on a long-term contract running until 2031 as part of the club’s continued investment in young talent with high potential.

The transfer has instantly elevated Yohanna into the ranks of Nigeria’s most valuable young footballers, but the teenager has consistently kept attention away from the figures surrounding his move.

In a video shared after his unveiling, he summed up his motivation in simple terms.

“I know where I came from. I want to make my family proud.”

That message has shaped how his rise is being viewed—less as a story of sudden wealth, and more as a journey built on sacrifice, resilience, and family support.

His progress has also caught the attention of Nigeria’s national team setup, where he is regarded as part of a new wave of attacking talents expected to strengthen the Super Eagles in the coming years.

Brighton manager Fabian Hürzeler has praised his creativity, pace, and confidence on the ball, while also stressing that the youngster will need time to adjust to the demands of English football.

For Yohanna, however, the focus remains unchanged. Despite the millions and the headlines, his story still circles back to where it began, on dusty pitches in northern Nigeria, where the dream first took shape.

Now, as he steps onto one of football’s biggest stages, his journey stands as another example of how far talent, discipline, and a single promise to family can go.
