Toronto Police Officer Shot During Raid Linked to U.S. Consulate Attack Probe
A Toronto police officer has been shot while officers executed a search warrant connected to an ongoing investigation into an earlier attack on the United States consulate in the city.
Police confirmed the incident occurred shortly before 6 a.m. on Thursday during an operation at an apartment in north-west Toronto.
The officer was wounded while authorities were conducting what they described as a targeted search linked to national security concerns.
The injured officer was quickly taken to hospital for treatment. Officials have not yet released details on the severity of the injuries or the condition of the officer.
According to Canadian media reports citing a source familiar with the investigation, the warrant was part of a broader probe into the March shooting at the U.S. consulate in downtown Toronto.
In that earlier incident on 10 March, two individuals allegedly fired multiple shots at the empty diplomatic building before dawn.
No injuries were reported at the time, though the attack was described by the U.S. ambassador to Canada as “deeply troubling.”
Canadian federal authorities have since been examining whether the consulate shooting should be classified as a terrorist act, as investigations continue into possible links and motives behind the incident.
