Anambra Police Arrest Woman Over Alleged Child Pornography
The Anambra State Police Command has arrested a 36-year-old woman, Anulika Onyeanusia, over alleged child pornography involving her eight-year-old daughter.
The arrest followed the circulation of a disturbing video involving the child, prompting police operatives to investigate its source and trace the person allegedly responsible.
Police investigations reportedly revealed that the eight-year-old girl was Onyeanusia’s second child, while investigators are also examining claims that her first daughter may have been subjected to similar abuse.
The suspect allegedly told investigators that she made money from uploading material involving her daughter, with $300 reportedly being the highest amount she received.
She also allegedly told investigators that her husband was unaware of what had been happening to their daughters.
The suspect reportedly attributed her actions to the devil, saying, “It is the devil, please forgive me.”
The police operation on Thursday evening also resulted in the rescue of four children aged two, three, six and nine years.
Police said items considered relevant to the investigation were recovered from the suspect, while the circumstances surrounding the alleged abuse are still being examined.
The case came to the attention of the command after the video surfaced online. Operatives subsequently used information available online to trace and arrest the suspect.
Police spokesman, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, confirmed the arrest and said the suspect remained in custody as investigators worked to establish the full circumstances of the alleged offence.
“The suspect is currently in police custody as the Command intensifies its investigation into the circumstances surrounding the alleged offence and the possible involvement of other persons,” Ikenga said.
He added that the suspect’s husband was also being questioned to determine whether he had any connection with the alleged offence.
The Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Command, CP Nnanna Oji, described the alleged abuse as unacceptable, particularly because it involved children unable to protect themselves.
Oji directed a thorough investigation and ordered that the rescued children receive appropriate care and protection.
The command said it would work with child-protection agencies and other relevant organisations to provide the children with counselling and other support needed for their recovery.
Police also assured that the identities and privacy of the children would be protected throughout the investigation.
The command commended vigilante operatives, bloggers and residents whose information assisted the investigation and led to the suspect’s arrest.
