Princess Astrid Dies Two Days After Attending Brother King Harald’s Funeral
Princess Astrid of Norway has died at the age of 94, just two days after attending the funeral of her brother, the late King Harald V, in Oslo. Her appearance at the emotional ceremony became her final public engagement.
The Norwegian royal family paid tribute to Astrid, remembering her decades of dedicated service and her concern for vulnerable people in society. She served as Norway’s first lady for 14 years after the death of her mother, Crown Princess Märtha, in 1954.

Norway’s Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre confirmed that Astrid will receive a state burial, while national flags will be flown at half-mast in her honour. Her death marks another loss for the Norwegian royal family following the passing of King Harald at 89.
