Putin Reopens a Diplomatic Door as Ukraine Peace Talks Near
Russian President Vladimir Putin has agreed to resume US-mediated peace talks with Ukraine as early as November, following a meeting with US special envoy Steve Witkoff in St Petersburg on Wednesday. The Kremlin said the proposed three-way negotiations could take place in Abu Dhabi from November 10, focusing on security arrangements for Russia and Ukraine after the war.
The nearly three-hour meeting also addressed possible peace proposals, economic cooperation and broader international issues. However, Kremlin aide Yuri Ushakov said recent discussions between US and Ukrainian officials had not fully satisfied Moscow, while Russia and Ukraine remain divided over key terms, including territorial control and Ukraine’s potential NATO membership. US President Donald Trump has increased pressure on Kyiv to reach a settlement.

The renewed diplomatic effort comes amid growing concerns over strained US-Ukraine relations, particularly following disputes over intelligence sharing and military satellite access. Putin also offered to help Washington address concerns over Iran and discussed potential economic cooperation with the United States. Despite the latest developments, major obstacles remain before any peace agreement can be reached.
