Nashville Moves to Honour Dolly Parton With Airport Naming Plan
Nashville has begun the process of adding Dolly Parton’s name to its international airport after the Metropolitan Nashville Airport Authority Board voted unanimously to pursue the tribute. The final name has not been decided, but the proposal has attracted strong public backing, with more than 175,000 people reportedly signing a petition supporting the move.
Parton, who died at 80, was born in Tennessee and became one of country music’s biggest global stars. Beyond music, she was widely celebrated for her philanthropy, particularly through the Imagination Library, which has distributed hundreds of millions of books to children.
Supporters say the tribute recognises her enormous contribution to Nashville’s culture, tourism and global image. Tennessee Governor Bill Lee has also backed the proposal, while the airport’s existing BNA code is expected to remain unchanged.
