Fight Night Return: EA Sends Boxing Fans a Long-Awaited Signal
Electronic Arts has sparked excitement among boxing game fans after signalling the return of its popular Fight Night franchise, more than 15 years after its last release. A new social media account announced the comeback on October 20, posting a message thanking fans for their patience and confirming that Fight Night is coming back.
The franchise’s last instalment, Fight Night Champion, was released in 2011 for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. Since then, EA has focused largely on its UFC games, leaving boxing fans without a dedicated new Fight Night title. However, the company has yet to reveal whether the comeback will be a completely new game, a remake or a mobile release.
The announcement comes after Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund acquired EA, amid the country’s growing investment in boxing and mixed martial arts. Although no release date or platform details have been confirmed, a new instalment could arrive as early as next year if EA follows its usual sports-game development schedule.
