FUTO Abducted Students Return Safely After Four Days
Two female students of the Federal University of Technology, Owerri (FUTO), who were abducted during a security incident on campus, have regained their freedom.
The students were abducted on Sunday, September 6, during the security incident that occurred on the university campus.
FUTO Management confirmed their release in a statement issued on Wednesday, September 10, by the institution’s Public Relations Officer, Orakwe Ezugwu.
According to the university, the students are currently receiving medical care and psychological support at the University Medical Centre.
The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Ikechukwu Dozie, visited the students at the medical centre and interacted with them after their release.
Management commended the Nigeria Police Force and other security agencies for their prompt intervention, which helped secure the students’ safe release.
The university said additional security measures are being sustained across the campus in partnership with relevant security agencies.
Management also urged students, staff, parents and other members of the university community to remain calm and vigilant.
It advised members of the university community to report suspicious activities to the appropriate authorities as part of efforts to strengthen campus security.
