FG targets August 2027 release of WAEC, NECO results
The Federal Government has begun efforts to harmonise the 2027 external examination timetable, targeting the release of results by August 2027 to enable eligible candidates to secure admission into tertiary institutions by September.
The Federal Ministry of Education disclosed this in a press release following a meeting between the Minister of State for Education, Professor Suwaiba Sa’id Ahmad, and heads and representatives of examination bodies in Abuja.
The meeting focused on aligning examination schedules, reducing timetable clashes and ensuring the timely processing and release of results.
Under the proposed timetable, the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board’s Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination, JAMB-UTME, will hold from March 15 to 25, 2027, with results expected in March.
The National Examinations Council’s Senior School Certificate Examination, NECO-SSCE, is scheduled for April 1 to May 14, while the West African Examinations Council’s Senior School Certificate Examination, WAEC-WASSCE, will run from May 11 to June 18. Results for both examinations are targeted for August 2027.
The National Business and Technical Examinations Board, NABTEB, examination is proposed for June 1 to July 5, while the National Board for Arabic and Islamic Studies examination is scheduled for June 10 to July 9. Results for both are also expected in August.
The ministry said the initiative aligns with the education reform agenda of the Minister of Education, Dr Tunji Alausa, under the Nigeria Education Sector Renewal Initiative, NESRI, which aims to improve efficiency, coordination and educational outcomes.
It added that engagements with examination bodies would continue to ensure compliance with the proposed timelines, strengthen accountability and align examination results with tertiary admission schedules.
The Federal Government said the harmonisation effort is part of its broader commitment to improving access to tertiary education and ensuring eligible candidates can begin their admission process by September 2027.
The dates remain proposed timelines as the ministry continues consultations with the relevant examination bodies.
