Super Falcons Crash Out of WAFCON 2026 After Cameroon Defeat
Nigeria’s Super Falcons have been knocked out of the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations after suffering a 1-0 quarter-final defeat to Cameroon on Sunday.
The highly anticipated encounter between the two African heavyweights was settled by a superb free-kick from Myriam Maéva Nyadjou Wamen in the 19th minute.
Cameroon held on to their narrow advantage despite sustained pressure from Nigeria, who pushed forward in search of an equaliser and a chance to force the game into extra time.
However, the Super Falcons could not find a breakthrough before the final whistle, bringing their title defence to an end.
The defeat means Nigeria will not retain the trophy they won at the previous WAFCON after defeating Morocco in the final.
Justine Madugu’s side will now turn their attention to their next fixture against South Africa on Thursday in Casablanca, where they will battle for a place in the Inter-Confederation playoff tournament.
