Nigeria began their 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign with a 2-1 victory over Madagascar in Uyo after falling behind early in the game.

Madagascar took the lead in the 16th minute through Clément Couturier, but George Ilenikhena restored parity before half-time after connecting with Alex Iwobi’s pass. Moses Usor then completed the comeback in the 65th minute, scoring on his competitive debut for the Super Eagles after a fine individual run.

Nigeria survived a nervous final period as Madagascar pushed for an equaliser and held on for all three points in Group L. The Super Eagles will next face Guinea-Bissau on September 29.
