Three Teams Seal Quarter-Final Spots as WAFCON Knockout Race Heats Up
The battle for the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations has entered a decisive stage, with the first three teams confirming their places in the quarter-finals as the race for the continental title gathers pace.
Cameroon became the first side to reach the last eight after edging Ghana 1-0 on Sunday.
The victory lifted the Indomitable Lionesses to six points from two matches and guaranteed them a top-two finish in Group D, regardless of the outcome of their final group game against Cape Verde.
Hosts Morocco also secured qualification after playing out a goalless draw with Senegal on Monday night in Rabat.
The result saw the Atlas Lionesses finish top of Group A with seven points from three matches, enough to advance comfortably to the knockout stage.
Algeria completed the list of early qualifiers after defeating Kenya 2-0 in their final group fixture.
The win moved them to six points, sealing second place in Group A behind Morocco and earning them a place in the quarter-finals.
With three places in the last eight already decided, attention now turns to the remaining group-stage fixtures, where other contenders will battle for the remaining quarter-final tickets as the competition moves closer to the knockout rounds.
