Nigerian Lady Trafficked to Benin Republic for Prostitution Dies After Returning Home Sick
A young Nigerian woman who was allegedly trafficked to Cotonou, Benin Republic, for prostitution has died after returning home in poor health.
The woman, identified as Sewuese, reportedly died in Benue State on Friday, July 24, 2026, after she was brought back from the neighbouring country.
Activist Zege Orkwande, who has been involved in efforts to rescue Benue women trafficked abroad, confirmed her death while revealing that investigations into the circumstances surrounding her trafficking are ongoing.
He also vowed that those responsible for taking Sewuese to Cotonou would be held accountable.
“People are asking ‘who took Sewuese to Cotonou’. Trust my process,” Orkwande wrote.
He added that the individuals who allegedly trafficked or smuggled her to Benin Republic for prostitution would face the law.
“The people that trafficked/smuggled her to Cotonou for prostitution will sure face the law and serve in prison uniform,” he stated.
According to the activist, all relevant information gathered during the investigation would be pursued, although he said he was waiting for Sewuese to be buried before taking further steps.
“All information gathered. I’m waiting for her to be buried first. REST WELL,” he added.
