Convict Regrets Stealing N700,000 to Buy Phones for Girlfriends Who Abandoned Him
A 25-year-old convict in Adamawa State, Suleiman Idi, has expressed regret after stealing N700,000 to buy mobile phones for his two girlfriends, who allegedly abandoned him after his imprisonment.

Idi, from Ngurore in Yola South Local Government Area, is serving his sentence at the Yolde Pate Correctional Centre in Adamawa State.
He reportedly stole the money to purchase handsets for the women, identified simply as Aisha and Asabe, who also reside in Ngurore.
According to Daily Post Nigeria, Idi was arrested in June 2026 and subsequently arraigned before the Ngurore Area Court, which sentenced him to six years in prison.
He was transferred to the Yolde Pate Correctional Centre on June 22, 2026, to serve his sentence.
However, his prison term was reduced from six years to two years on Friday, October 23, 2026, following a review by the Adamawa State Jail Delivery Committee.
The committee, chaired by the state’s Chief Judge, Justice Hafsat Abdulrahaman, reviewed his case alongside those of other inmates.
During his appearance before the committee, Idi admitted stealing the N700,000 and explained that he had used the money to buy mobile phones for his girlfriends.
He expressed remorse for committing the offence, acknowledging that stealing to satisfy the women had landed him in prison.
Idi also lamented that neither Aisha nor Asabe had visited him since his incarceration or shown any support during his time behind bars.

His account highlights the personal consequences of his decision to steal money to please his romantic partners, leaving him to serve a prison sentence without the support he had apparently hoped to receive from them.
