Callum Connor Gets UFC Deal Despite Losing Fight
Britain’s Callum Connor has earned a UFC contract despite suffering the first defeat of his professional career on Dana White’s Contender Series. The Manchester lightweight lost a unanimous decision to Peru’s Piero Guaylupo, but UFC president Dana White was impressed enough by the bout to sign both fighters.
White described the fight as a potential Fight of the Year contender, noting the high number of significant strikes exchanged. Connor, 26, now has an 8-1 professional record, while 21-year-old Guaylupo improved his record with the victory.
Meanwhile, Norbert Novenyi Jr won his fight against American Theo Haig by unanimous decision but was not offered a contract. White said he did not see enough in the performance to sign Novenyi immediately, although he told the 26-year-old that the UFC would like to watch him again.
