Appeal Court Overturns Ruling Seeking Deregistration of ADC, Accord, Others

The Court of Appeal sitting in Abuja has nullified the Federal High Court judgment that sought the deregistration of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Accord Party and three other political parties.

In its decision delivered on Tuesday, the appellate court ruled that the Forum of Former Legislators, which initiated the suit, lacked the legal standing required to challenge the registration of the political parties.

The three-member panel, led by Justice Abba Bello, held that the group had no locus standi to institute the action, rendering the earlier judgment of the Federal High Court invalid.

As a result, the appellate court set aside the decision of Justice Peter Odo Lifu, effectively restoring the affected political parties’ legal status.

The court also imposed a ₦1 million cost against the Forum of Former Legislators for bringing the suit.

Further details are expected as the judgment becomes available.
