Japan’s Takaichi Set to Meet Trump Ahead of US-China Summit
Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi is expected to meet US President Donald Trump in New York on Tuesday on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly, ahead of Trump’s planned talks with Chinese President Xi Jinping.
According to Kyodo News, Tokyo and Washington are arranging the meeting as Japan seeks to coordinate its position with the US on China, particularly over Taiwan and regional security.

The meeting would be the fourth in-person encounter between Takaichi and Trump since she became prime minister in October 2025. The two leaders have also held several phone conversations covering China, economic security and regional issues.
