Brazilian Football Match Sets World Record After 51 Players, Coaches Receive Red Cards
A Brazilian youth football match has made global headlines after a massive on-field confrontation resulted in 51 red cards, setting a new world record for dismissals in a single game.

The extraordinary incident occurred during the Minas Gerais Under-20 Championship semi-final first leg between Uberlandia and Mamore, where tensions escalated into a violent confrontation involving players and coaching staff.
According to reports, 43 players and eight members of the coaching teams were sent off following the disturbance, making the encounter one of football’s most extraordinary disciplinary incidents.
The previous record stood at 36 red cards, issued during a fifth-division Argentine fixture between Club Atletico Claypole and Victoriano Arenas in 2011.
Brazilian news outlet O Tempo reported that military police were called to Parque do Sabia Stadium following extensive damage caused during the confrontation.
The referee’s report indicated that the trouble began during the second half after Mamore player Davi allegedly taunted the opposing team’s bench while celebrating his side’s 3-1 advantage.
The celebration reportedly angered Uberlandia’s goalkeeping coach, Paulo Sergio Dias Dos Santos, who ran onto the pitch to confront the player, triggering clashes involving members of both teams.
Three players had reportedly received red cards before the larger confrontation erupted, but the subsequent violence resulted in dozens more dismissals.
The incident also left significant destruction inside the stadium, prompting police intervention and raising concerns about the behaviour of players and officials during the match.
According to the police report, 14 doors were broken, windows were damaged, shower facilities were affected, while benches, tables and chairs were also destroyed.
Referee Fernando Patrick Drosghic Modesto eventually suspended proceedings for approximately 40 minutes before abandoning the match because of the disorder.
Uberlandia Concedes Semi-Final Return Leg
Following the incident, Uberlandia announced that it would concede the second leg of the semi-final, allowing Mamore to advance to the championship final.
The club explained that Mamore had only seven available players remaining after the mass dismissals, making the circumstances surrounding the return fixture particularly unusual.
Uberlandia described its decision as a gesture of fair play, adding that it would instead concentrate on the competition’s third-place match.

The extraordinary encounter has attracted international attention, highlighting how a football match can quickly descend into disorder when rivalry and emotions overwhelm sporting discipline.
