Iran Executes Two Men Convicted of Spying for Israel

Iranian authorities on Monday carried out the execution of two men convicted of spying for Israel, as the country continues its crackdown on individuals accused of working with foreign intelligence agencies.

The executions were confirmed by Iran’s judiciary, which said the pair had been found guilty of providing sensitive military and security information to Israel’s intelligence service, Mossad.

According to Mizan, the judiciary’s official news agency, investigators concluded that the men passed the locations of key military and security facilities to Israeli operatives.

Iranian officials claimed the intelligence was used to support Israeli operations against the country.

The judiciary said both men were convicted of espionage and collaboration with what it referred to as the “Zionist regime.”

However, authorities did not disclose when they were arrested or provide details about the court proceedings that led to their convictions.

The latest executions come against the backdrop of heightened tensions between Iran and Israel following months of conflict that also involved the United States.

Since the fighting escalated, Tehran has stepped up arrests, prosecutions and death sentences for people accused of espionage, sabotage and cooperating with foreign governments.

Iran has repeatedly defended its use of the death penalty in national security cases, insisting it will take firm action against anyone found guilty of assisting hostile foreign intelligence services.
