What Women Should Know About Sanitary Pads and Menstrual Products
Women are increasingly paying attention to the materials used in menstrual hygiene products, with concerns about chemicals and other compounds that may be present in some sanitary products.
Some discussions have raised concerns about substances such as volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and bisphenols in menstrual products. However, claims that these substances in sanitary pads directly cause infertility, hormone disruption or cancer should not be presented as established medical facts without reliable scientific evidence.
Women who prefer alternatives can consider menstrual cups, menstrual rings, reusable or 100 per cent cotton pads, as well as tampons. Whatever product is chosen, checking the materials, safety information and instructions from the manufacturer can help women make informed decisions about menstrual health.
