WAFCON 2026: Morocco and Algeria Secure Quarter-Final Slots as Group A Concludes
Host nation Morocco locked down the top spot in Group A following a tense, tactical 0-0 stalemate against Senegal at the Olympic Stadium in Rabat.
Jorge Vilda’s Atlas Lionesses controlled early possession but focused heavily on defensive organization to protect their tournament advantage against a physical Senegalese frontline.
The hard-fought point elevates the home side to seven points, successfully confirming their status as undefeated group winners on home soil.
Meanwhile, regional rivals Algeria definitively stamped their ticket to the knockout phase with a comfortable 2-0 victory over Kenya at the Moulay El Hassan Stadium.
The Fennecs established absolute dominance inside the opening half-hour courtesy of quick-fire goals from Marine Dafeur (14′) and Lynda Bendris (23′).
The clinical result ensures Algeria finishes cleanly in second place with six points, while a winless Harambee Starlets squad bows out of the tournament.
Following the conclusion of the simultaneous pool fixtures, Morocco and Algeria safely advance to the elite final eight as the pool’s automatic qualifiers.
Senegal drops to third place with four points and must now wait on other results to secure passage as one of the best third-placed teams.
The final Group A standings leave the competitive field beautifully positioned ahead of the high-stakes quarter-final bracket this weekend:
