Steve Garcia Opens Up on Emotional Moment With Son After UFC Defeat
Steve Garcia has revealed that the hardest part of his loss to Diego Lopes at UFC Freedom 250 was not the knockout itself, but telling his young son he had been defeated.
Garcia, who had not lost a fight in four years, said his son became emotional after asking if he had won, a moment the featherweight described as heartbreaking.
The veteran said he reminded his son of an important life lesson: when you lose, you get back up and try again.
Reflecting on the fight, Garcia admitted he lost control after engaging in a brawl with Lopes during the second round.
He believes he should have been more disciplined defensively instead of trading punches, adding that he was confident he was winning the fight before the momentum suddenly shifted in Lopes’ favor.
Despite the setback, Garcia remains determined to return stronger and has already identified Jean Silva and Arnold Allen as potential opponents for his comeback.
He insisted the defeat has only fueled his hunger to compete at the highest level, warning the featherweight division that he is determined to fight his way back into title contention.
