Army Arrests Wanted Soldier Allegedly Supplying Terrorists With Military Uniforms
Troops conducting operations in Borno State have arrested a soldier who was declared wanted by the Nigerian Army over allegations that he supplied military uniforms and other military items to terrorist groups operating in the North-East.
The soldier, identified as 23NA/84/1939 Private Mohammed Yusuf, was arrested at about 6:30 p.m. on Saturday, July 25, by personnel of the 7 Provost Group led by its Acting Commander.
Security analyst Zagazola Makama disclosed the development in a statement shared on X.
According to the statement, Yusuf, who was attached to the Nigerian Army Ordnance Training Facility in Lagos, allegedly abandoned his unit before travelling to Maiduguri on July 7, where he reportedly went into hiding.
Investigators also traced his movement to Gomari Costain in Jere Local Government Area of Borno State, where he was allegedly sheltered by another soldier, 25NA/89/12687 Private Baba Kamal Sale of the Corps of Intelligence, Dikwa.
Following intelligence reports on his whereabouts, troops of the 7 Provost Group reportedly placed the suspect under surveillance for 24 hours before arresting him at Jidari Bus Stop.
He was allegedly intercepted while attempting to leave the area and flee towards Cameroon.
The soldier is currently being held by the 7 Provost Group as investigations continue into the alleged transfer of military accoutrements to terrorist elements.
Authorities are also working to determine whether other individuals were involved in the alleged activities.
The arrest is expected to aid ongoing efforts by the military to uncover and dismantle insider networks suspected of supporting terrorist operations in the North-East.
