Jorge Jesus Breaks Silence on Ronaldo Fallout, Says He Would Change Nothing
Portugal head coach Jorge Jesus has stood by his decision to sideline Cristiano Ronaldo, declaring that he has absolutely no regrets about how he handled their disagreement.
The dispute began in October when Ronaldo was left on the bench throughout Portugal’s 90-minute Nations League encounter against Croatia.
The decision reportedly angered the five-time Ballon d’Or winner, who subsequently left the national team camp.
Ronaldo, 41, was later handed a suspension and financial penalty by the Portugal Football Federation over his departure.
Although he was eligible for Portugal’s November fixtures, the veteran forward announced his retirement from international football on Thursday.
Speaking about the breakdown of his relationship with Ronaldo, Jesus maintained that his decision was guided by professional responsibilities rather than personal differences.
“I wouldn’t change anything, absolutely nothing,” the Portuguese coach said.

He added that his responsibility was to protect the team’s interests and put the Portuguese national team first.
“I’m convinced that I didn’t do anything to cause what happened,” Jesus maintained.
His comments come amid growing attention surrounding Ronaldo’s departure from international football and the circumstances that preceded his decision to end his Portugal career.
