Wildfire Forces Mass Evacuations in Canada’s Fraser Canyon
A fast-moving wildfire has forced dozens of families to flee their homes in Canada’s Fraser Canyon after flames spread rapidly near the community of Boston Bar, prompting evacuation orders and a state of emergency.

The wildfire, which has grown to about 100 hectares since it was first detected on Thursday, remains out of control, according to the B.C. Wildfire Service. Officials believe the blaze was caused by human activity.
Around 60 homes along Chaumox Road have been ordered to evacuate immediately, while residents throughout Boston Bar have been placed on evacuation alert and advised to prepare to leave at short notice with family members, pets and essential belongings.
Firefighters continue to battle the blaze with the support of helicopters, air tankers, ground crews and heavy equipment as authorities work to prevent the fire from spreading toward nearby communities.
A temporary reception centre has been opened at the Hope Recreation Centre to assist evacuated residents.
Although officials say the wildfire is currently moving uphill and away from major infrastructure, they warn that hot, dry weather and little chance of rainfall could allow the flames to expand further in the coming days.
The wildfire has also blanketed parts of the region in thick smoke, prompting an air quality advisory for the Fraser Canyon, while smoke drifting from hundreds of active wildfires in Canada’s Northwest Territories has further worsened conditions.

Several other wildfires remain out of control across British Columbia as emergency crews continue efforts to protect lives and property.
