Egypt, Iran Discuss De-escalation and US Deal
Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty and his Iranian counterpart, Abbas Araghchi, discussed efforts to reduce regional tensions and revive stalled diplomatic efforts between Tehran and Washington. The talks focused on creating conditions for a return to negotiations and pursuing a lasting agreement that could improve regional stability.
Abdelatty stressed the need for stronger diplomatic efforts and called for freedom of navigation through the Strait of Hormuz, while also emphasizing the importance of protecting the security and stability of Gulf countries. Both ministers agreed on the need for peaceful solutions to help restore stability.
The discussions come after the implementation of a US-Iran memorandum, reached through mediation by Pakistan and Qatar, stalled amid disagreements over its terms and navigation arrangements in the Strait of Hormuz.

The waterway is a major route for global oil and gas shipments, making the dispute a growing concern for regional trade and energy markets.
