Wike Praises Dunamis Church as Enenche’s Abuja Bridge Project Sets Example for Religious Organisations
Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has praised Dunamis International Gospel Centre for constructing a pedestrian bridge in Abuja.
Wike described the project as a practical demonstration of leadership, urging religious organisations and private institutions to contribute more towards improving public infrastructure.
He spoke on Friday during the commissioning of the bridge, which the church constructed as part of its corporate social responsibility activities.
The minister commended Dunamis Senior Pastor, Dr Paul Enenche, and his wife, Dr Becky Enenche, for extending the church’s responsibilities beyond spiritual activities.
According to him, the intervention showed how religious institutions could translate their teachings into meaningful actions that address everyday challenges.
Wike said leadership should be measured by tangible contributions to society rather than public declarations, political statements or promises without visible results.
He explained that watching a documentary about the church’s activities convinced him that its efforts deserved recognition.
“Watching the documentary and seeing what you have done, touching lives, not only with your soul, but talking about the welfare of other people, that is leadership,” he said.
The minister acknowledged that committing financial resources to community projects required sacrifice, particularly for organisations already managing several responsibilities.
He said Dunamis had demonstrated a willingness to prioritise public welfare by investing in infrastructure that benefits people beyond its congregation.
Wike also recounted the church’s previous dealings with the FCT Administration, revealing that its application initially dated back to 2018.
He explained that the request resurfaced in February 2026, when the church renewed its engagement with the administration.
According to him, the government processed the request within a short period, demonstrating its readiness to support projects that serve the public.
He urged Nigerians to recognise government achievements where they existed while maintaining their right to demand improvements through constructive criticism.
Wike maintained that governance should be judged by measurable achievements and the difference public office holders make in people’s lives.
He challenged elected representatives to identify specific projects and contributions they had delivered rather than relying on claims of political representation.
The minister added that future generations would remember leaders for their decisions and contributions, not the promises they made while holding office.
He also warned against allowing social media narratives to determine public opinion without examining the facts surrounding individual performance.
Wike assured Dunamis of the administration’s willingness to support community development initiatives and indicated that government would consider contributing 50 per cent towards an associated project.
He subsequently encouraged churches, businesses and individuals to invest in projects that improve public safety and complement government responsibilities.
Earlier, Enenche said Christian love must go beyond preaching and become visible through generosity, selflessness and practical service to humanity.
He argued that people’s legacies should reflect the problems they solved and the lives they improved, rather than the wealth they accumulated.
The pastor stressed that religious institutions had responsibilities beyond spiritual ministrations, including interventions that promote human welfare and societal development.
The newly commissioned pedestrian bridge represents one such intervention, bringing the church’s message of service into a practical community project.
