Terrorists Attack Niger Community, Kill Residents and Abduct Women, Children

Residents of Pissa community in Borgu Local Government Area of Niger State have been thrown into mourning after heavily armed terrorists stormed the village, killing several people, abducting women and children, and setting homes ablaze.

According to local accounts, the attackers invaded the community in the early hours of Saturday, overwhelming local vigilantes who attempted to resist them.

Witnesses said the assailants arrived in large numbers and unleashed violence across the village, forcing many residents to flee into nearby bushes for safety.

Audio messages shared by fleeing villagers revealed fears that neighboring communities, including Kabe and Sukumba, could also come under attack.

Residents described a chaotic situation in which families were separated as people scrambled to escape.

One villager, speaking from a hiding place, said the attackers remained in the area for hours without any visible security response.

He lamented that local defenders were unable to withstand the assault and expressed concern over the absence of military reinforcements.

Security concerns have been heightened by reports that access to some affected communities has become difficult after a key bridge linking the area to Wawa town was destroyed during previous insurgent activities.

Locals say the damaged infrastructure has complicated rescue and response efforts.

The latest attack adds to a growing wave of violence linked to extremist elements operating around the Kainji Lake National Park axis.

Security sources say the group has increasingly expanded its operations across parts of Niger, Kwara and Oyo states after relocating from former strongholds in recent years.

Communities in the region have witnessed a series of deadly attacks, kidnappings and mass abductions, with residents repeatedly calling for stronger security measures to prevent further bloodshed.

As of the time of filing this report, authorities had yet to issue an official statement on the incident, while residents continued to appeal for urgent intervention to protect vulnerable communities.
