Remi Is A Pastor Who Taught Me Bible That Once Upon A Time There Was Moses And Pharaoh– Tinubu
President Bola Tinubu has said his wife, Senator Remi Tinubu, a pastor, taught him the Bible and the story of Moses and Pharaoh in Egypt.
In a video shared by Channels Television, Tinubu spoke about the biblical account while defending his administration’s decision to remove fuel subsidy.
The President stated that Nigeria will never return to the fuel subsidy system, using the story of Moses leading the Israelites out of Egypt to explain his position.
Tinubu recalled how Pharaoh refused to release the Israelites from slavery in Egypt.
He said Pharaoh later pursued them when Moses led them out of Egypt after they had begun their journey to freedom.
Tinubu explained that when Moses and the Israelites reached the Red Sea, the sea parted and allowed them to cross to safety.
The Red Sea Crossing
He added that the Egyptian army pursuing them perished in the water after the sea closed back on them.
Tinubu said Moses could not be expected to turn back and return the Israelites to Egypt after they had escaped from slavery.
He said the journey out of Egypt was final, and there was no reason for the Israelites to go back to the place of their suffering.
Nigeria Must Move Forward
Using the story to defend his decision to remove fuel subsidy, the President said Nigeria must continue moving forward rather than return to the old system.
He said just as the Israelites moved forward after crossing the Red Sea, Nigeria must also keep moving forward after leaving the subsidy regime. He concluded by declaring that the country would never return to fuel subsidy.
According to him: “I believe I am speaking to majority of the Christians. My wife is a pastor who taught me bible that once upon a time there was Moses and Pharaoh.”
