Khamenei Funeral Sparks Fresh Iran Warning to U.S., Israel
Iran has issued a stern warning to the United States and Israel against launching any military action as the country prepares for the funeral ceremonies of late Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
Ali Abdollahi, commander of Iran’s Khatam al-Anbiya Central Headquarters, said Tehran’s armed forces were fully prepared to respond to any aggression, warning that any attack would be met with what he described as a decisive and severe retaliation.
The warning comes as Iran begins nationwide preparations for Khamenei’s state funeral. The ceremonies are scheduled to start in Tehran on July 4 before moving through several locations, including the holy city of Qom, and ending with his burial in Mashhad on July 9.
The renewed threat follows similar remarks made a day earlier by Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi after Israeli Defence Minister Israel Katz reportedly suggested that Iran’s current Supreme Leader, Mojtaba Khamenei, had been “marked for death.”
Iranian authorities have also tightened security ahead of the funeral, with state media reporting increased protective measures across the country.
Officials announced that temporary airspace restrictions will be imposed over key cities, including Tehran and Mashhad, throughout the funeral period.
The latest exchange underscores the continuing tensions between Iran, Israel and the United States, despite another round of indirect talks between Washington and Tehran ending in Qatar without a breakthrough toward a lasting peace agreement.
