Infantino Fires Back at World Cup Critics, Defends FIFA’s Tournament Success

FIFA President Gianni Infantino has strongly defended the 2026 FIFA World Cup, accusing critics of spreading “hate and false rumors” instead of recognizing what he described as a successful tournament.

In a lengthy statement shared on Instagram and FIFA’s website, Infantino said the competition delivered “the best show in the world,” bringing joy and unity to millions of football fans.

The FIFA chief dismissed criticism surrounding issues such as visa denials, ticket prices, political interference, and commercial breaks during matches.

He argued that while critics focused on isolated controversies, millions of fans from across the world celebrated the tournament peacefully in Canada, Mexico, and the United States.

Infantino also defended FIFA’s handling of the controversy involving U.S. forward Folarin Balogun, insisting that decisions to suspend player bans under certain circumstances are routine.

He further highlighted that Iran’s national team entered the United States without incident, describing it as an example of football helping to bridge divisions.

The FIFA president concluded his message by urging critics to reflect, pray, or simply enjoy football instead of spreading negativity.

He signed off by thanking supporters and expressing hope that the tournament’s positive moments would be remembered more than its controversies.
