Indonesia Ferry Disaster: 128 Missing After Vessel Sinks in Java Sea
At least 128 people remain missing after the Virgo Transport 8 ferry sank in Indonesia’s Java Sea, while 109 survivors have been rescued and six deaths confirmed.
The ferry, carrying 243 passengers and crew, went down early Sunday off South Kalimantan near Tanjung Selatan and Masalembu Island. Indonesian rescue teams continue to search the area for those still unaccounted for.

Authorities said 15 survivors remain hospitalised in Banjarmasin, while another 59 people in stable condition have been placed in temporary accommodation. Officials are also assisting survivors who lost their identification documents as rescue and recovery operations continue.
