Former SUG President, NYSC Member, Found Dead in Bayelsa

A National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member serving in Nembe Local Government Area of Bayelsa State, Okebaram Stanley Chimaroke, has been found dead after he was reported missing.

Chimaroke, a 27-year-old Civil Engineering graduate of the Federal Polytechnic Nekede, Imo State, and former President of the institution’s Students’ Union Government (SUG), was reportedly discovered in a body of water within the Nembe community.

The corps member was declared missing after colleagues became unable to establish contact with him, prompting a search operation by security authorities.

Reports indicate that the incident was reported to the police at about 8:40 p.m. on July 25, 2026, by a fellow corps member, Aribisola Bisi Isaac, who was accompanied by Adeola Marvelous.

Police sources said the NYSC Local Government Inspector informed officers that Chimaroke, who was serving in Nembe Creek, was last seen around 8:00 p.m. on July 24.

Efforts to reach him through his mobile phone lines reportedly failed, raising concerns among his colleagues and leading to a search in the riverine community.

Following the report, police operatives were deployed to the area, which is about 45 minutes by boat from the Nembe Divisional Police Headquarters, to search for the missing corps member and investigate the circumstances surrounding his disappearance.

While some sources alleged that he may have been attacked before his disappearance, authorities have yet to confirm the circumstances that led to his death.

The Bayelsa State Police Command had not, as of the time of filing this report, released an official statement confirming the recovery of the body or providing further details on the ongoing investigation.
