FIFA Introduces New Prize for World Cup Champions
FIFA is set to introduce a new tradition at the 2026 World Cup by awarding championship rings to the winners of Sunday’s final between Argentina and Spain at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey.

The rings, inspired by a long-standing custom in American professional sports, will be presented alongside the traditional gold medals, making this the first time World Cup champions will receive such an honour.
A total of 30 custom-designed rings have been produced for the victorious squad, while a limited number of replica versions will be released for fans.
United States President Donald Trump is expected to attend the final and present the World Cup trophy to the winning team.
His appearance comes after FIFA President Gianni Infantino earlier indicated that the US leader would be present at the tournament’s showpiece event.

The tournament has also generated off-field discussion following reports that Trump contacted Infantino over the red card shown to United States striker Folarin Balogun earlier in the competition, a development that drew widespread attention.
Meanwhile, FIFA says it is monitoring air quality around New York and New Jersey due to smoke from ongoing Canadian wildfires.
Although health advisories have been issued, organisers have stated that there are currently no plans to delay or disrupt the final.

The championship match will therefore not only determine the next FIFA World Cup winners but also mark the beginning of a new tradition in football history as the victorious players become the first to receive championship rings alongside the famous trophy.
