2027 Elections: Ex-INEC Director Raises Concerns Over Nigeria’s Voter Register
A former Director of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Oluwole Osaze-Uzzi, has questioned the credibility of Nigeria’s voter register ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Osaze-Uzzi warned that irregularities in the register could undermine efforts to conduct free, fair and credible elections across the country.
He raised the concerns on Friday during an appearance on Channels Television’s Politics Today, where he discussed Nigeria’s electoral preparations.
According to him, the existing voter database contains significant irregularities that require urgent attention before the next general elections.
He maintained that conducting elections with a compromised register could make it difficult for INEC to deliver credible results in 2027.
Osaze-Uzzi said the electoral commission must thoroughly examine the register and address existing flaws before the elections.
He specifically urged INEC to remove deceased persons, underage individuals and multiple registrations from its database.
The former electoral official also called for the publication of the cleaned register, allowing Nigerians to examine its contents and identify possible irregularities.

He warned that failure to address these concerns could expose the 2027 elections to controversies similar to those surrounding the 2023 general elections.
