Trump Bars CNN, Two Others From White House — More May Follow
United States President Donald Trump has announced a ban on CNN, MS NOW and Politico from the White House, accusing the three media organisations of repeatedly publishing what he called “fake news” about his administration. (ABC News)
Trump made the announcement on Friday in a post on Truth Social, declaring that the ban would take effect immediately. He also warned that other media outlets could face similar restrictions. (CBS News)
The president said his decision followed what he described as the outlets’ cumulative coverage of his administration. He did not, however, identify a particular report that prompted the latest action. (ABC News)
Trump also criticised Politico over an $8 million government subscription during former President Joe Biden’s administration, alleging that the payment was improper. Politico rejected the allegation, saying the claim had been debunked. (ABC News)
CNN defended its White House reporting, saying it stood behind its journalists and their work. Politico similarly said it would continue covering the administration and defend its First Amendment rights. (ABC News)
The practical scope of the ban remained unclear, however. Reporters from the affected outlets were still present at the White House after Trump’s announcement, with no immediate indication that their credentials had been revoked. (ABC News)
The development follows previous clashes between the Trump administration and news organisations over White House access.
In 2025, the administration restricted Associated Press access after the agency continued using “Gulf of Mexico” rather than Trump’s preferred “Gulf of America.” The dispute subsequently became the subject of legal proceedings. (Los Angeles Times)
