Kim Jong Un Vows Continued Support for Putin’s War in Ukraine
North Korean leader Kim Jong Un has pledged to expand and deepen his country’s cooperation with Russia, reaffirming his support for President Vladimir Putin and what he described as Russia’s “sacred war” over its security interests.
Kim made the remarks in response to a congratulatory message from Putin marking North Korea’s 78th founding anniversary. North Korea has already deployed thousands of troops to support Russian forces, particularly during fighting in Russia’s Kursk region.
The growing partnership has been strengthened by a 2024 mutual defence treaty, while South Korean and Western officials say Pyongyang has also supplied Moscow with ammunition in exchange for economic and military assistance.
Kim’s latest pledge comes amid concerns that military cooperation between the two countries could deepen further, with Ukrainian officials warning that North Korean troops are gaining battlefield experience and access to modern Russian military technology.
