Nigerian Midfielder David Eze Leaves Man City, Joins Man United
Nigerian midfielder David Eze has announced his departure from Manchester City after spending eight years in the Premier League club’s academy.
The 2010-born youngster confirmed his exit in a social media post, bringing an end to his long association with City.
Eze is now expected to continue his development at Manchester United after reportedly agreeing terms with the club.
The move comes despite interest from several other Category One academies, with the midfielder opting for United as his next destination.
Born in March 2010, Eze is expected to join Manchester United on a scholarship agreement.
He will initially feature for United’s Under-18 side while remaining eligible to represent the Under-21 team and potentially progress to the senior squad.
Premier League regulations require players in their Under-17 year to begin the season under scholarship agreements.
They become eligible to sign their first professional contracts once they reach 17, subject to the relevant regulations.
Eze expressed appreciation to Manchester City’s coaches, staff and other officials who contributed to his development during his eight-year spell.
“After 8 unforgettable years, I have decided to leave Manchester City and begin a new chapter,” he wrote.
He also thanked those who supported him, saying his time at the club provided opportunities, challenges and memories that shaped his football career.
“I am immensely thankful for the opportunities, challenges, and memories that have influenced both my career and my personal growth,” Eze added.
The youngster also acknowledged the coaches and staff he worked with and expressed gratitude for their support throughout his time at the academy.
His move to Manchester United will give the promising midfielder a fresh opportunity to develop within another of England’s leading youth systems.
