Tyla’s Lagos Concert Faces New Uncertainty as VDM Issues Stark Warning
South African singer Tyla’s planned Lagos concert has come under fresh pressure after social media activist Martins Vincent Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan, demanded that the organisers stop the event.
VDM, in a video shared on his official Facebook page on Thursday, July 30, 2026, said the concert should not take place amid growing anger over reports of xenophobic attacks against Nigerians in South Africa.
He warned that Tyla’s December performance in Lagos would face opposition if the organisers proceeded with the show.
“There will be no Tyla concert in Nigeria. It is not happening,” VDM declared.
Addressing the promoters, he said the planned concert was unacceptable at a time Nigerians were still dealing with hostility and discrimination in South Africa.
According to him, allowing Tyla to come to Nigeria to perform and earn money from Nigerian fans while such tensions continue would send the wrong message.
“Not when Chidinma Adetshina is battling deportation in South African court. Now you want to bring in Tyla and sell tickets so that Tyla will make money off Nigerians,” he said.
VDM also issued a stronger warning, saying those opposed to the concert could move against the event physically if the organisers refused to reconsider their plans.
“This is a warning to you, if you go ahead with that show, we will come to the venue and we will bring the show down,” he said.
His comments come amid calls on social media for Nigerians to boycott the concert as a form of protest against reported attacks on Nigerians in South Africa.
The controversy follows the release of Tyla’s world tour schedule by her management, which lists Lagos as one of the singer’s destinations. She is scheduled to perform in Lagos on December 22, 2026.
For now, the concert remains on the announced schedule, but VDM’s warning has added a new layer of tension to what had been expected to be one of the major entertainment events in Lagos later this year.
