Montreal Police Shooting Ends in Three Deaths, Officer and Civilian Among Victims
A daytime shooting in the Côte-des-Neiges area of Montreal has left three people dead, including a police officer, a civilian, and the suspected gunman, in an incident authorities say unfolded suddenly on Monday afternoon.

Police confirmed that the attacker, believed to have acted alone, was shot and killed at the scene shortly after the violence began. One additional officer was seriously injured during the response and is reported to be in stable condition.
The attack took place in the densely populated Côte-des-Neiges neighbourhood, where witnesses described hearing gunfire and seeing what appeared to be a weapon fired from inside a building. Emergency services were quickly deployed as residents alerted authorities.
Quebec’s Public Security Minister said investigators are still working to determine the motive behind the shooting, noting that there is currently no confirmed reason for the attack.
Authorities also emphasized that the situation remains under active investigation.
The fallen officer has been identified as 34-year-old Mohamed Lamine Benredouane, who joined the Montreal police force in 2021.
The police department described him as a dedicated officer and announced that flags at police buildings would be lowered in his honour.
The civilian victim, Michael Moshe Mizrahi, was described by community representatives as a respected member of Montreal’s Jewish community. Officials have not confirmed whether the attack was targeted or motivated by hate.
Following the incident, federal and provincial authorities were alerted, with Canada’s Prime Minister Mark Carney expressing shock and offering condolences to the victims’ families, first responders, and the wider community.
City officials, including Montreal’s mayor, also extended sympathies, calling the event deeply tragic for both the police service and residents of the city.
Public transit and road services in the area were temporarily disrupted as police secured the scene and issued a short-lived emergency alert warning residents of an armed suspect at large. The alert was later lifted once the situation was contained.

Investigators continue to examine the circumstances surrounding the attack, including reports suggesting possible ideological influences, though officials caution that no conclusion has been reached.
