Emeka Ike Sues INEC, Wike’s Aide Over Alleged Voter Data Leak, Demands N10bn

Nollywood actor, Emeka Ike, has taken the Independent National Electoral Commission (Independent National Electoral Commission) and Lere Olayinka, media aide to FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, to court over alleged breach of his personal data.

The case, filed at the Federal High Court in Abuja, is centred on claims that Ike’s voter registration details were unlawfully accessed and published online without his consent.

The controversy began after Olayinka allegedly shared screenshots on social media platform X showing details of Ike’s voter transfer from Imo State to the Federal Capital Territory.

The post, which was reportedly traced to INEC’s internal voter registration system, sparked public concern over possible misuse of restricted electoral data.

While Olayinka questioned the actor’s eligibility to contest for a House of Representatives seat in Abuja, the publication triggered backlash from Nigerians who accused him of accessing confidential voter information through unauthorized means.

INEC later denied any major system hack, explaining that the incident was due to misuse of valid internal access credentials rather than an external breach.

The matter also attracted attention from security investigators, who reportedly questioned individuals linked to the leak.

In his suit marked FHC/ABJ/CS/1272/2026, Ike is asking the court to declare that the publication of his voter details amounts to a violation of his constitutional right to privacy and data protection.

He is also arguing that INEC has a legal responsibility to safeguard voters’ personal information from unauthorized disclosure.

The actor is seeking ₦10 billion in damages, alongside a court order compelling the removal of the post and a public apology published on social media and in national newspapers.

The case is expected to test the boundaries of Nigeria’s data protection laws and the responsibilities of public institutions in handling sensitive voter information.
