The Zambia Women’s National Team launched their 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) campaign with a statement performance, routing Egypt 6-0 at the Rabat Olympic Stadium.
Under the guidance of Swiss head coach Nora Häuptle, the Copper Queens dominated from the opening whistle, showcasing the clinical attacking flair that has made them one of the continent’s most feared sides.
The emphatic victory immediately positions Zambia as a serious title contender, sending a clear warning to the rest of the tournament field.
The match highlights belonged to talismanic captain Barbra Banda, who put on a masterclass by netting four goals.
Racheal Nachula opened the scoring in the 25th minute by confidently converting a clinical penalty, setting the tone for the evening.
Banda then took over in the second half, converting her own penalty in the 60th minute before adding three more goals in the 63rd, 87th, and deep into stoppage time (90+6′).
Substitute Eneless Phiri also found the back of the net in the 93rd minute, rounding out a flawless offensive display.
With this massive six-goal victory, Zambia provisionally takes the top spot in Group C on goal difference.
