US Releases 100 Questions Foreigners Must Know Before Citizenship Test
The United States has released the official list of 100 civics questions and answers that foreigners seeking American citizenship through naturalisation are expected to study ahead of their citizenship test.
The material, published by the US Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS), covers American history, government, the Constitution, citizens’ rights and responsibilities, and national symbols.
USCIS said the civics section of the naturalisation test is conducted orally. An immigration officer will ask an applicant up to 10 questions from the 100-question list, with at least six correct answers required to pass that section of the examination.
The agency also warned applicants that some answers may change, particularly those relating to government officials who hold elected or appointed positions.
Applicants were therefore advised to confirm the latest information before their interviews and provide the name of the official serving at the time of their eligibility interview.
USCIS further encouraged applicants to use its official study material when preparing for the test, noting that some questions may have more than one acceptable answer.
The questions are grouped into areas covering the principles of American democracy, the US government, citizens’ rights and responsibilities, American history and other aspects of civic knowledge.
