US Launches Fresh Strikes on Iran After Tankers Attacked in Strait of Hormuz
The United States has carried out fresh military strikes against Iran after three merchant ships were hit by projectiles in the Strait of Hormuz on Tuesday. According to the British military, one tanker caught fire after being struck, while the other two suffered minor damage and continued their journeys. No casualties were reported. In response, the US said the attacks on commercial vessels were unacceptable and described them as a violation of the ceasefire agreement reached with Iran last month.
The US Central Command said the strikes were intended to impose “heavy costs” on Iran for targeting commercial shipping in international waters. Following the attacks, Washington also revoked a 60-day license that had allowed the sale of Iranian oil under the temporary agreement aimed at reducing tensions. A US official said the decision was taken because Iran’s actions in the Strait of Hormuz could not go unanswered. Iranian authorities have not officially responded to the latest US strikes.
The renewed exchange of attacks has raised fears that the fragile truce between the two countries could collapse. The Strait of Hormuz remains one of the world’s most important shipping routes, with a significant share of global oil and natural gas passing through it.

The latest incident has renewed concerns over regional security and the potential impact on global energy supplies, while efforts to resume negotiations between the US and Iran remain uncertain.
