Liverpool, Everton Compete for Free-Agent Defender Takehiro Tomiyasu

Liverpool and Everton are reportedly among several Premier League clubs interested in signing Japanese defender Takehiro Tomiyasu following his departure from Arsenal.

According to reports, the 27-year-old is available on a free transfer and has been offered to a number of English clubs, including Liverpool, Everton, Newcastle United and Sunderland. However, Crystal Palace are believed to be leading the race for his signature.

Tomiyasu has reportedly been training with Crystal Palace during pre-season under manager Pierre Sage, but he is said to prefer remaining in the Premier League.

Liverpool are considering the versatile defender as they continue to strengthen their backline. Although Jeremie Frimpong was signed to replace Trent Alexander-Arnold, injuries and inconsistency forced the club to use midfielders in the right-back role at times last season.

Everton are also looking to improve their defensive options after long-term fitness concerns affected their right-back position. With Seamus Coleman no longer at the club, manager David Moyes is believed to be searching for a reliable replacement.

Tomiyasu can play as both a right-back and a centre-back, with his versatility and Premier League experience making him an attractive option. However, his recent injury record remains a concern that interested clubs will likely assess before making a formal move.
