Jordan Intercepts Five Iranian Missiles as US Unleashes Fresh Strikes on Iran
Jordan has announced that it intercepted five Iranian missiles aimed at its territory, raising fresh concerns that the widening conflict between the United States and Iran could draw more countries into the confrontation.
The Jordanian Armed Forces said its air-defence systems were activated after the missiles were detected heading towards the kingdom. According to the state-run Jordan News Agency, all five were intercepted before they could cause damage.
The military said there were no casualties from the attempted attack and assured residents that security forces remained on high alert.
“Interception measures” were carried out against the incoming missiles, the armed forces said, adding that it was maintaining the highest level of preparedness to respond to any threat against Jordan and its citizens.
The development came hours after the United States launched a new round of heavy strikes against targets in Iran, following an attack on American military installations in Jordan on Wednesday.
The US military said the latest operation targeted dozens of positions linked to Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps.
The renewed US offensive marks a sharp escalation after a pause in American strikes and has heightened fears that the conflict could spread further across the Middle East.
Jordan, which lies between major regional powers and hosts US military personnel, has repeatedly found itself caught in the wider security tensions surrounding the conflict.
The interception of the missiles underscores the growing risk to neighbouring countries as the confrontation continues to intensify.
With Washington stepping up its military response and Tehran continuing to launch attacks, pressure is mounting across the region as governments brace for further escalation.
