How to Buy Cheaper Petrol at NNPC Stations Across Nigeria
Motorists across Nigeria can save money on petrol through a discount scheme introduced by the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited at its retail stations nationwide.
Finance Minister Taiwo Oyedele announced the initiative, which offers customers a ₦66 discount per litre when they purchase petrol through the NNPC Fuel App. Public transport operators have also been given priority under the scheme.
However, motorists must meet specific requirements to enjoy the price reduction, including registering on the app and using it to pay for their fuel.
To benefit from the offer, customers must download the NNPC Fuel App from the Google Play Store or Apple App Store and complete the registration process. The app provides access to the discount and helps users locate participating NNPC Retail stations.
Simply downloading the app is not enough to qualify for cheaper petrol. Motorists must use the app to pay for their purchases at eligible NNPC stations to receive the ₦66 reduction on every litre bought.
The app’s station locator can help customers identify participating outlets before leaving home. This allows motorists to plan their journeys and avoid visiting stations where the discount may not be available.
The initiative applies specifically to NNPC Retail outlets. Independent filling stations and other fuel marketers are not required to offer the same discount, so customers should confirm that a station participates before making their purchases.
Commercial Drivers Can Also Benefit
Public transport operators are among the priority beneficiaries of the federal government’s petrol discount initiative. Commercial drivers, transport unions and fleet operators can register on the NNPC Fuel App to access the offer, subject to its payment requirements.
For drivers who buy large quantities of petrol over several days, the savings could help reduce operating expenses. A ₦66 reduction per litre can make a difference for commercial motorists who spend a substantial part of their daily earnings on fuel.
Transport operators should ensure their app registrations are complete and confirm the applicable payment procedure before purchasing petrol.
How Much Can Motorists Save?
The ₦66 discount is deducted from the prevailing pump price rather than setting a uniform petrol price across the country. Consequently, the final amount customers pay depends on the price charged at their chosen NNPC station.
For example, if petrol sells for ₦1,370 per litre in Abuja, a customer who qualifies for the discount would pay ₦1,304 per litre. At a Lagos station selling petrol for ₦1,350, the discounted price would be ₦1,284 per litre.
These examples illustrate the discount’s application; actual pump prices may change. Motorists should check the prevailing price at their preferred station and confirm the discount before completing their transactions.
Is the NNPC Petrol Discount a Return of Fuel Subsidy?
NNPC has described the initiative as a temporary customer relief measure, not a return to the petrol subsidy regime.
The scheme is intended to provide motorists with some relief from fuel expenses, with the discount available through the company’s designated retail outlets and app-based payment system.
Motorists seeking cheaper petrol at NNPC stations should therefore register on the NNPC Fuel App, locate an eligible outlet and complete payment through the approved channel to access the ₦66-per-litre discount.
